Cabinet nod to disability sports centre in Gwalior

New Delhi, Mar 1 (IANS): The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal for setting up a centre for disability sports at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.

"The setting up of the centre shall entail an estimated cost of Rs 170.99 crore, spread over five years," an official statement said.

The improved sports infrastructure created by this centre will ensure effective participation of persons with disabilities in sports besides enabling them to compete at the national and international levels.

To supervise the centre, there will be a governing body, comprising members, not exceeding 12, with some serving in the ex-officio capacity and others coming in as experts from national sports federations apart from experts in para games.

At present, no specialised sports training facilities for persons with disabilities are available in the country.
