Mangalore, Feb 23: In an incident of misunderstanding, some Muslim youth manhandled a Hindu youth, after they saw that he was speaking to a Muslim woman on Sunday February 22, near the Central Market here.

A Muslim woman from Madikeri had arrived in the city on Sunday. As she wanted to have lunch in the afternoon, she enquired about the directions to a good hotel, from a passerby. The man obliged by pointing her to a nearby hotel.

A group of youngsters who watched that the two were conversing, approached and hit him, the man said.  Then a few Hindu youth joined the issue. There was some jostling and pushing, before the youth approached the Bunder police station.

The police officials called the Muslim youth to the police station and struck a compromise between the two groups. No complaint was registered at the police station.
