Freida’s Mangalorean Family Delights at Her Oscar Debut

Daijiworld Media Network—Mangalore (RD/CN)

Mangalore, Feb 25:
“It’s a joy and honour for us that Freida Pinto, our close relative is an actor in the movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ which bagged the Oscar Award this week”, exclaimed her uncle and aunt when Daijiworld correspondent and cameraman reached their home ‘Pinto Wade’, at Marlottu in Yekkar village, near here, on Tuesday February 24.

Freida’s ancestral home lies in little-known Marlottu village a few kilometers away from Neerude on the way to Bajpe.  Freida’s father Fredrick Pinto was born and brought up here, and did his graduation at St Aloysius College in the city.

He later migrated to Mumbai in search of better opportunities and landed a job with Bank of Baroda in the metro.  His wife Sylvia is a high school teacher in Mumbai.

Freida was born and brought up in Mumbai and took up modeling after her graduation before turning to acting.  She had visited her ancestral house on December 27, 2008, along with her parents and elder sister Sharon who works for NDTV.

Freida’s uncle Michael and aunt Mary, their daughter Sylvia and her seven-year-old son Triston live at Pinto Wade.

When asked to pose for the camera, Mary Pinto hesitantly posed along with Sylvia and Triston.

We are all justifiably proud of this girl with Mangalorean roots. Will Neerude Parish or better still, CASK - Catholic Association of South Kanara take the lead in honouring this Mangalorean girl who has made us all very proud to be Mangies?

Congratulations Freida! When a lady of Indian origin flew into space, or became a CEO of a co. all the news channels projected them as our own. Why not this young lady from humble beginnings, who will certainly go a long way??? Perhaps this is the first write up on her origins! Wake up press!!!
