Bangalore, Feb 28: The Karnataka Government on Friday said it has forwarded a proposal to the Centre to rename Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) after the founder of this city, Kempegowda.

"A recommendation to rename the airport as Kempegowda International Airport has been sent to the Centre. Hope this will bring cheer to everyone here," chief minister B S Yeddyurappa announced in the state assembly on Friday February 27.

D K Shivakumar (Cong) quickly responded saying "all our members have already sent a letter to the Union government, demanding that the newly-constructed airport be named after Kempegowda".

A local chieftain, Kempegowda founded Bangalore, which has now grown to be the IT capital of the nation.

The new greenfield airport built in a Joint Venture mode, became operational on March 28 last.

The madness which was hit the Maharastrians has hit Bangalore political brass now. Try to improve the services and infrastructure at the airport rather than changing the name. And please dont forget its a private airport and the shareholders will decide under what name it has to operate.

i suggest, it should be BANGALORE INT'L AIRPORT ( BCOZ FOREIGNERS OR TOURIST CANNOT SPELL KEMPEGOWDA OR ANY OTHER TRADITIONAL NAMES) SO IT IS BETTER TO CHANGE AS "BANGALORE INT'L AIRPORT"

Good to see that politicians have consensus in some issues, but here too they want to take the credit to themselves, but no violence. Thank you.
