Mangalore, Feb 28: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) will be pursuing with its demand to name the city's international airport after Rani Abbakka, a great queen who valiantly fought the British in Ullal, said T A Narayan Gowda, state president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike.

He was speaking to the media persons at a press meet held here on Saturday February 28. He noted, that recommendation to rename Bengaluru Airport as ‘Kempe Gowda Airport' has already been made. Why this fuss about changing the name of the airport? What needs to be changed is the mindset of the people at Airport, services and the infrastructure. Please ignore these cries for name change for the time being

This is of no use at all. Mangalore Airport is very famous. If they change the name of this airport to some other name, then it will create unnecessary confusion in the international level. Officers of other international airports may not identify the new name properly.

It is better to retain Mangalore Airport by the name of Mangalore itself. KRV can do better works than this. This is just for simplicity. How many international journeys the KRV and its members have done. Do they know the importance of Mangalore Airport? Just publicity. Media should not give publicity for these issues.

The Vedike should consider prioritising air and water pollution in coastal Karnataka in the immediate future. It is bound to become a very serious concern in D.Kannada. Even the air in Udupi area seems very polluted under notorious nocturnal and early morning stagnation episodes.

Well said, if we don't remember Rani Abbakka. Maharastra or Gujarat will not remember her!! everyone should support this.we should name the new circle [old clock tower] after our own person from our district.
