Mangalore: Ivory Worth Rs 20 Lac Seized - One Arrested

Mangalore, Mar 4: Urwa police have arrested a person and seized ivory worth Rs. 20 lac from his possession.

The arrested man has been identified as Renny from Neriya near Beltangady. He was carrying them for the purpose of searching for a willing buyer.

Two tusks of an elephant were seized from him, when he was carrying them in a bag, policemen attached to Urwa station said. Valuation of the ivory is done on the basis of the approximate prevailing rates they might fetch, as official rates are not available for them, being contraband commodity, they informed.
 
He was arrested from the KSRTC bus stand, Bejai in the city late night on March 3. The accused would be produced before the court on Wednesday March 4.
 
When questioned about the source from where the man had got access to ivories, the policemen stated that investigations are on.

    These people who involve in poaching are no less than terrorists. They kill the animals and are a threat to the environment. These people should also be given tough punishment.
