Kundapur, Mar 4: A protest demanding early declaration of the final draft concerning minimum wages of the labourers was held in front of the labour office here on Tuesday March 3.

The protest was led by the Tile Workers Association.

Speaking on the occasion, K Shankar, general secretary of the Association pointed out that though the initial draft regarding minimum wages was released more than 18 months back, release of the final draft has not yet taken place. This is a fraud being played on the labour class, he criticized.

The workers must be given a minimum wage of Rs 6000 per month to enable them to lead an honourable life. The BPL ration cards should be issued to all the labourers and the distribution should be made through public distribution system without too many formalities, he demanded.

The workers must be united and find solutions to their problems through united struggles, particularly in the era of global meltdown that is seriously threatening their very existence, said H Narasimha, leader of the Association.

Union leaders like H Sheena, Kumbashi Ganesh, Rajeev Shetty, Koni Rama, Manjunat, Shankar Devadiga, Lakshman Nellikatte, Shankar Devalkunda and S Babu participated at the protest.

The procession was led by the protesters in all the main roads of the taluk.
