Mangalore, Mar 9:
Pandit M Venkatesh Acharya (76), creator of Mangalore Almanac (Mangaluru Panchanga) as per Hindu customs, who guided Tantric rituals of Sri Venkataramana Temple, Car Street here for decades, passed away on Monday March 9, at his residence here.  He had served as celebrant/priest at the Goud Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) community- owned Sri Venkataramana Temple here for the past five decades.

Pandit M Venkatesh Acharya, who was born in 1932, had been actively involved in the service of the GSB community and was adept at performing of Vedic rites.  He was well-versed in astrological calculations and his interest in this field led him to devise Mangalore Almanac during the year 1955.  The almanac, brought out every year on the occasion of Ugadi, is much sought after by the locals, for keeping a track of auspicious occasions and local festivals in various temples across the twin-districts.

He is survived by three daughters and thousands of well-wishers amongst his community brethren as also others.

May the soul of sri Venkatesh Acharya rest in peace..His Astrological skills were highly appreciated all over Karnataka. Add to that he was a modest priest. Visitors to Sri Venkataramana Temple,Mangalore will miss him.
