Bantwal: Lokayukta Traps Surveyor while Accepting Bribe

Bantwal, Mar 13: A licenced surveyor working in the survey office of the taluk was trapped by the Lokayukta while accepting bribe on Thursday March 12.

Though the Bantwal survey office has a dearth of government surveyors, there are a number of government-licenced surveyors working in the office.

A P Manjunath, surveyor, was trapped by a team of the Lokayaukta while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from Ramanand Saphalya, resident of Daddalakadu, for providing him the sketch of his land located at Nadayi of Kodambettu village.

A sketch pertaining to a land of Rs 1.23 acres bought by Amita Rajeev Shetty from Ahad Kunni is available. Manjunath reportedly demanded for a bribe of Rs 5,000 to prepare sketch of the 65 cents additionally bought. Reportedly, he had received an advance amount of Rs 3,000 from Saphalya.

On Thursday, in a pre-planned operation, Manjunath was arrested while accepting the balance Rs 5,000 from Saphalya.

It is gathered, that Manjunath already is facing several charges. He would be produced in Mangalore court, the Lokayukta officials who interrogated Manjunath in the presence of the tahisldar, said.

Sadanand Varnekar, deputy superintendent of police, Uday Nayak, inspector and other personnel conducted the operation.
