Puttur: Argument ensues after KSRTC conductor seeks bus fare for cocks

Puttur, Apr 29: A verbal friction arose between the conductor of a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus and a bus passenger. The conductor had insisted that the passenger should pay half ticket fare for the cocks the passenger was holding. The angry passenger got down from the bus at the end. This incident happened at Uppinangady in the taluk on Sunday April 28.

A person from Kuppetty had boarded a bus that was bound towards Sakleshpur at Uppinangady station. He had two cocks in a bag he held, which he said were meant to be sacrificed at the Daivasthana located on the border of Dakshina Kannada district with Hassan. He had paid bus fare of Rs 77 for himself to Sakleshpur for the bus that had limited stop. The bus conductor, who then observed that the passenger had two cocks with him, prepared to charge him an additional amount of Rs 77 for the poultry birds.

When the passenger argued with the conductor, he explained that half ticket rule is applicable in government buses for birds. The passenger said he was exempt from payment of fare as his cocks were in a bag. The other bus conductors at the bus stand convinced him that as per government rule, animals and birds are charged.

The man then got down from the government bus with his cocks, and boarded another vehicle to undertake journey to Sakleshpur. He was seen cursing the government buses and pledging that he will never ever board a government bus in future with poultry birds.
