Bengaluru: BJP criticises CM for 'temple run' than visiting drought affected regions

Bengaluru, May 8: The Karnataka BJP has come down heavily on the Congress-JD(S) coalition, especially chief minister HD Kumaraswamy who according to them is busy with his ‘temple run’ rather than tackling drought woes.

Warning state wide agitations, BJP state chief B S Yeddyurappa called the coalition ‘apathetic’ towards people suffering with drought. “None of the officials are paying heed and there is no one who is questioning them,” Yeddyurappa told reporters in Bengaluru on May 7.

Highlighting the woes of people in 170 taluks suffering with severe drought, lack of drinking water and fodder for cattle, he blamed coalition to be busy with ‘infighting’ while CM is busy with temple visits. "No minister has shown interest to visit the affected areas," he lashed out.

Yeddyurappa questioned if the coalition government is alive or dead. Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar shared the same concern with reporters in Hubballi. Terming the government to be non-existent, he advised CM that it is time to visit farmers than perform religious rituals.

Shettar also called the government ‘irresponsible’ and blamed Kumaraswamy for concentrating too much on his son's victory in Mandya and the Lok Sabha elections than doing his duty.

“Elections are over and people have already chosen. Results will not change if you visit temples,” Shettar advised CM and ridiculed that the temple visits shows his insecurity of losing in the Lok Sabha polls.
