Chamarajanagar, Jul 22: A woman identified as Gowramma from Paleyooru village had died after having been attacked by an elephant on Kombudikki - Tokere route of Malemahadeshwara hills on Saturday. It has since transpired that she saved the life of her granddaughter by throwing her into a fenced area in the region.

Gowramma had visited the residence of a relative at Modtane near Hanoor to attend the annual 'Marihabba' being organized there. When returning home along with her four-year-old granddaughter, an elephant suddenly attacked them. She instantly threw her granddaughter in a fenced area nearby. The elephant, which was agitated, crushed Gowramma to death. Relatives of the woman who were following her from a distance, saved the injured girl.
