Karkala, Jul 23: The construction of Nandalike gram panchayat building of the panchayat which was separated from Belman gram panchayat four years ago during gram panchayat elections is facing roadblock.

Nandalike gram panchayat which was functioning in the excise department building when it came into existence had plans to construct its own building at a cost of Rs fifty lac, but a private party has brought a court stay against the construction. The private party has argued for a way in the land proposed for construction as they do not have any other approach road to their property.

Panchayat office in rented building:

The panchayat is functioning in a rented building paying a rent of Rs 4,500 per month. People are unhappy as their tax money is spent on rent. There is wide demand that panchayat administration and elected representatives should try and sort out the confusion for constructing new building.

Anganwadi children in danger:

There is an Anganwadi close to the building. The pits dug for pillars in the intended building are left as they are. The pits filled with rainwater are inviting danger to Anganwadi children going about in the vicinity. The fence erected by the panchayat has gone haywire. Panchayat development officer has said that a new fence will be erected to prevent children from going closer to the pits. Panchayat elections are approaching. People have urged for construction of the building by then.
