Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada registers good rainfall

Mangaluru, Jul 25: Many places in Dakshina Kannada district received good rains on Wednesday July 24 even though the quantum of rain was less than the previous day.

The city received sporadic rainfall since morning. Generally cloudy weather was experienced. Rainfall was also reported from Puttur, Sullia, Kasargod, Bantwal, Beltangady, Kadaba etc. Even though the district received copious rainfall during the last some days, shortage of rains continued to be alarming with the average deficiency hovering around 30 to 45 percent.

Udupi received good rainfall on Wednesday evening after sunny weather prevailed since morning. After holidays declared on account of heavy rain prediction, schools and colleges would reopen on Thursday.

A house in Samethadka Ambedkar colony collapsed due to heavy rains in Puttur taluk. The compound wall of veterinary hospital in Puttur also crashed to the ground. The operation undertaken to remove a boulder that was about to fall on the railway tracks at Manibanda near Siribagilu between Mangaluru and Bengaluru was completed on Wednesday.

The meteorological department has predicted good rainfall in coastal areas during the next two days.
