Moodbidri: Feeling cheated, bank borrower resorts to hunger strike

Moodbidri, Jul 25: Alleging that Kallabettu Cooperative Bank from where he had availed loan against pledge of gold ornaments has showed as if he had borrowed a higher amount, and prepared to auction the ornaments he had pledged as security, Raviraj Hegde from Shirtady near here sat in protest by way of fast in front of the said bank on Wednesday, July 24.

Hegde had availed loan from the above cooperative bank five years back. As he failed to repay the loan, the bank had filed suit in the court of the deputy registrar of cooperative societies and began the process of auctioning of the gold ornaments given as security for the said loan. On Wednesday, Raviraj Hegde undertook protest by way of fast in front of the bank. An ambulance was stationed at the spot.

President of the cooperative bank, Krishnaraj Hegde, in a statement, said that the loan raised by Raviraj Hegde is backed by documents and that the bank is taking steps as per law for not repaying the loan. He asserted that the bank has not in any way inflicted injustice on the borrower concerned.
