Mangalore: Diwali Fire Crackers - Many in State Suffer Injuries

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Oct 20: A youth named Parameshwar, living on Malemar Beach Road in the city, has lost one of his eyes, as the 'rocket' fired during the Diwali celebrations directly hit his eye. He is being treated at Fr Muller Hospital in the city. The doctors said that all the parts of his eye were destroyed due to the impact of the incident.

In the meanwhile, similar incidents have been reported from other parts of the state. Over 80 from Bangalore alone were injured, several of them critically, in the Diwali-related incidents.  A major portion of the serious cases relate to the damage to eyes. Narayana Netralaya in the city treated 31 cases till now. On Monday, two critically injured patients were admitted into that hospital as in-patients, the hospital sources divulged. Other eye care hospitals like the government Minto Hospital, Netradhama Hospital and Modi Eye Hospital have treated a number of patients, many of whom have lost their eye sight.

Household goods located in a house belonging to Ashok Kumar in Chickpet were gutted due to fire created by a rocket that entered his home. An Innova car parked on B V K Iyengar Road was gutted in the fire created by fire crackers. The fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and prevented further losses.

Many of the cases relate to improper and careless handling of the fire crackers that can be very dangerous. Crackers like rockets and some others which move about swiftly and hence can not be controlled, do most of the damage. Over the years, advices about the need to carefully handle the fire crackers appear repeatedly  in the media and other forums, but the people just do not seem to care.

The louder the cracker, the more the demand for it. No ban will impact the Indian pschye. It is for all to see how "bans" work in India. Squarely blame it on the wisdom of the parents/guardians.

B.Shetty, Mangalore By damaging /hurting others property,if you get happiness then you are teaching selfishness. Kids cannot be blamed as they are not matured, even if their parents who are supposed to guide them act like them this is the consequence.you have to keep in mind while bursting cracker you are putting your, surrounding peoples life & property in danger as some fire cracker like rocket choose their own path.

So these have to be banned or the parents of kid who is bursting crackers must be held responsible for air pollution & damage done by their kids.Kids should be taught care for others, care for the environment you live, air you breathe etc. Not damage everything if you get fun.Remember the proverb "REAP WHAT YOU SOW"

Diwali….it is a festival of lightning….while we pray for God to bring lightning of wealth and health in our life. But, many kids are losing their lighting of life for ever because of these evil crackers. It will be worked out if we could bring a law like Shop man should not hand over any harmful crackers to children if so he will be punished severely.

It is really redficioulous. When such a loss in N. Kanara District due to floods, , is there no alternative to stop this fireworks, which nobody will gain out of it, other than waste of money or risk of accidents and deaths. Why Government can not ban these good for nothing habits of firworks in the the name of Deepavali. Is it a mark of enjoyment or feastivity? Please hence this has to be banned by keeping it in mkind the so many casaulties in the country due to Firworks during Deepavali feastivity.

Diwali, christmas and new year are celebrated with bursting of fire crackers. Its once in a year and its really fun. Parents should take more care and responsibility in ing and using these fire toys. These should be used in the presence of an adult male member who can guide the children. Most of the time, its little children are victims as they are more excited and curious about the crackers. Parents should educate their children about safety in handling fire crackers. As said Raj/Dubai its better to fire these crackers in large open grounds so that casualities and damages are minimized.

First of all please do not misunderstand my comments. It does not relate to any particular community. Why should we burn money on dangerous items like crackers ? Why can't we use the same money for any other noble cause ? Every year we see so much harm done by fire crackers & still why do we play with fire ?

It is really very sad............i believe deepavali is a festival of lights.......  .but those children lost their eyesight.......... because of their parents negligence.  I have seen many place's, people like to celebrate these crackers in open ground with professionals......that is the better solution.
