Udupi, Mar 12: “People who recently arrived in the district from abroad should voluntarily declare with Asha and health department workers that they have arrived from abroad and help to control the spread of corona virus,” said the district health and family welfare officer, Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda. He spoke on Thursday in a meeting at the office of the district health and family welfare here, about precautions to be taken to deal with the coronavirus.

He asked the people who arrived from abroad after February 25 to voluntarily declare their arrival and those who know of such people to inform the health department and help the district administration to control the virus. He added that the details of the infected persons will be kept confidential.

“Those who returned from abroad should not mix with outsiders for fourteen days thereby preventing the spread of the virus by remaining at home. New labs to examine the swab samples are opened in Shivamogga, Mysuru and Hassan along with two labs that existed in Bengaluru.

"Strict action will be taken against those who spread false information on coronavirus on social media. The identity, address and other personal details of the virus- affected victims should not be spread on media,” he said to the DHO.

Dr Sooda asked to inform the district surveying unit on telephone number 0820-2525561 if severe cough, cold and breathing problems in people who arrive from abroad are known and not to use private vehicles, buses and other public transport while arriving for medical examination. “There is a special well-equipped vehicle in the health department for the purpose which will be sent to the house of the suspected virus victim. He will be transported in that vehicle and examined,” he said.

"No case of Covid-19 is detected in the district. Medical report of a woman from Sagar who was admitted to Kasturba Medical College, Manipal showed that she is not infected. She is admitted to the hospital due to old-age related problems," said Dr Sooda.

District medical survey officer, Dr Vasudev Upadhyaya, district aids controller, Dr Chidananda Sanju, district pathogen controller, Dr Prashanth Bhat, RCH officer Dr M G Rama, Sathish Rao, district coronavirus control task force member Dr Tejasvini, Preetam and Girish Kaddipudi were present.
