Bengaluru, Mar 13: City police commissioner Bhaskar Rao, issued a clear warning to police having links with rowdies. He was addressing a press conference held here on Thursday, March 12.

At the press conference, he said that during the questioning of underworld fugitive, Ravi Poojary, the information that a police officer had connections with him has come out. He said that a number of things are coming out during the investigation by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and that an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) in the department reportedly had helped Ravi Poojary.

"If an officer of our department had connections with Ravi Poojary, it is not right. Such an officer should not be in the Central Crime Branch. There should be transparency in the investigation. We should take action against people who work against the government and the country. We have already recommended disciplinary action against the officer having connections with criminals who have cheated the people and the government through," he explained.

The commissioner issued a stern warning to police having connections with rowdies and warned of disciplinary action against them. "I do not care whether they are slum lords or others. If the police are involved with criminals or celebrate a birthday or have any other dealings with the criminals, I will surely take action without fail," he said.

Ravi Poojary had revealed that an assistant commissioner of police of CCB had cordial dealings with him. It is said that the ACP also was close to another criminal from the coastal region, Kali Yogesh. In this backdrop, the ACP has been transferred to the VVIP security division. Taking the issue seriously, director-general of police Praveen Sood, has passed an order to hold a departmental inquiry against the ACP concerned. It is said that Ravi Poojary was in constant touch with this officer when he was being brought here from Senegal. There is a possibility of money having changed hands. As such, the DGP has asked to hold the inquiry covering all the aspects. The ACP had functioned in Mangaluru between 2003 to 2015. Therefore, the ACP is likely to be having contacts in various sectors in that region For the present, a departmental inquiry has been ordered and further steps would be initiated on the basis of the findings of the report, it is learnt.
