When the truck laden with arecanut bags was climbing the Merkaje upward slope slowly, the gang of youths got onto the truck and pulled down four bags of arecanut. Driver of the truck noticed the theft when the truck broke down due to technical reasons after a little distance.

Sharth Nellikunja, Gaurish Bheemajigodlu and Thejas Merkaje are the persons arrested in this connection.

As soon as the truck driver noticed the theft of arecanut bags, he informed the same to Srikanth Mavinakatte, dealer of arecanut of Doddathota. He also informed the same to grocer Dinesh Mundakaje. When they started searching for the bags thinking that they might have fallen off the truck in transit, they noticed a car which zoomed past them at breakneck speed towards Sullia. When Srikanth followed the car, he had suspicion on the inmates in the car and asked the truck driver to inform the mater to Bellare police station.

Bellare police acted swiftly and based on the registration number of the car approached Sharath Nellikunja, a resident of Doddathota. Then based on the record of recent calls on his mobile arrested Gaurisha Bheemajigodlu and Thejas Merkaje.

Police were able to recover all the four stolen bags of arecanut from the culprits and registered a case on the trio.
