Udupi, Apr 22: The COVID-19 pandemic is an anxious and uncertain time, where the destitute are finding it difficult to access food and other essential needs. Fr Philip Neri Aranha parish priest, St Peter Church, Barkur and the council members with parishioners have offered a helping hand to over 150 catholic and non-catholic families in and around Barkur. Kits containing essentials were distributed to the identified beneficiaries through the Church's ward representatives and volunteers. Fr Philip Neri Aranha, Sr Jasmitha, Shaila D'Souza, panchayath president Charles D’Almeida, Catholic Sabha president, ward representatives and volunteers were present. Fr Philip Neri Aranha gave the presidential remarks and appreciated the selfless service provided by the police officers, ASHA workers and MESCOM officials.

The parish priest expressed his gratitude to the donors for their contribution in raising the funds. During this programme, police personnel Raghavendra Poojary and Sujatha were honoured for their selfless service to the people of Barkur during this pandemic. ASHA workers Beena, Babi, Suhasini, Rajeevi and Bhanumathi were also honoured for their services to the families especially to the children, pregnant women and the elderly. MESCOM officials Raghavendra, Sridhar and Ashok were honoured for providing constant power supply without any interruption.

The vice-president of Parish Council Herald D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Parish Council secretary Vivet Lewis proposed the vote of thanks. Eric Soans compered the programme.
