Udupi, Apr 27: As salons are closed since over a month on account of lockdown, people are facing hardships as they have not been able to get their hair trimmed or the beards shaved. People who are locked inside their homes are somehow getting these things done with help of other family members. But poor people who belong to other districts, and who are currently being looked after at the camps for the homeless are facing problems.

Social worker from here, Nityananda Olakadu, who realized the predicament of these families, distributed shaving kits to them on Sunday. Every day, hundreds of destitute persons from other districts come together near Indira Canteen in the afternoon for the free meal. Olakadu, who came there, handed over soaps, blades, brushes and use and throw shaving kits to these workers. He gave these kits by identifying people who were sporting long beards and hair. He requested them to shave off their beards and said he would return the next day to check whether they had shaved.

Udupi town traffic police sub-inspector Abdul Khader, handed over the shaving kits. On this occasion, entrepreneur Ranjan Kalkura honoured Nityananda Olakadu. Speaking on the occasion, sub inspector Khader said that the people have been providing food and other things to the destitute and people without shelter at various places in the town since a month. He said that there is no nobler donation than food and satiating hunger is an act that pleases the Lord.

Nityananda Olakadu, speaking on the occasion, opined that maintaining the good health of the people undergoing sufferings is as important as providing food to them. He said that salons in the district are closed since a month and even people who are ready to get their beards shaved, are not getting shaving kits. He said that in view of this issue, he had distributed kits to a hundred people on behalf of Pancharatna Seva Trust. He also promised to distribute such kits to 500 people within a couple of days.
