Mangaluru: Pumpwell flyover cracks - Congress demands probe

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 28: Cracks have appeared at three spots on the Pumpwell flyover on National Highway 66. Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee president and MLC Harish Kumar said that there is a possibility of irregularities having taken place in the execution of works, and demanded a thorough probe into the issue.

He was responding to the reports appearing in various media over the cracks on the said flyover. "Even after ten years since the work was started, this flyover was not fully completed. After this fact received widespread criticism in the social media the work was undertaken in a hurry and completed in three months. When the final works were in progress, a Congress delegation had inspected the spot and expressed suspicion about substandard work. Nobody took us seriously then and continued with the works. Who is responsible for the loss caused by these cracks?" he wanted to know.

He noted that cracks appearing within three months of completion of flyover can be nothing other than the poor quality of work. "If this is the situation for the first rain, what will happen during heavy rainfall? The probe should also cover service road and underpass, all of which have been unscientifically built," he claimed.

Ivan visits: Based on the reports, MLC Ivan D'Souza, visited the spot on Monday and urged National Highways Authority of India not to disburse payment to contractors. He was accompanied by several Congress activists.
