Udupi, May 5: Auto drivers in the city, who copy the style of sandalwood stars Puneet Rajkumar and Prince Mahesh Babu will be slapped with fine of Rs 500 from May 6.

Police are already cautioning, in main junctions of the city, auto rickshaw drivers who are wearing double shirts instead of one about the fine to be slapped.

It is a trend in Udupi of auto rickshaw drives wearing one casual shirt inside and the khaki uniform shirt on top of it. Usually they wear a full sleeve casual shirt inside and Khaki half shirt on it with buttons open.

According to Motor Vehicles Act, public vehicle drivers are supposed to wear only one Khaki uniform shirt. Now the traffic police of city have decided to implement this strictly. Right now the traffic police are asking such drivers to get down from the vehicle put the buttons properly and then proceed.

Traffic police are mainly teaching the auto rickshaw drivers of uniform etiquette at main junctions of the city like Ambalpadi, Kalsanka, Manipal Diana city circle and City bus stand auto parking.

Sub-inspector (SI) Abdul Khader taught the auto rickshaw drivers that double shirt is worn by only anti-social elements. He convinced them that their profession is a noble one. So they have to be disciplined and give good service to the passengers.

The SI said that they will start slapping Rs 500 fine for the offence of wearing double shirts from May 6.
