Mangaluru, May 7: Heavy rain, wind, and lightning which battered Puttur, Beltangady and other areas on the evening of Tuesday caused heavy loss to electrical installations, agriculture, houses, school etc.
64 complaints relating to damage to houses were filed in revenue department of Puttur taluk. St Philomena high school, Patte Srikrishna higher primary school and Machchimale government lower primary school were damaged due to rain, said block education officer at Puttur. Mescom executive engineer Narasimha, said that Puttur division had suffered loss of Rs 60 lac due to the rainfall into the form of fallen electric poles, transformers etc.
Agricultural farms at Koyyur, Shibaje and other villages in Beltangady taluk were damaged, with hundreds of trees getting uprooted. Hundreds of banana trees were razed to the ground due to strong wind. Roofs of some houses were blown away in Kadaba taluk.
After mud heaped for highway work from B C Road and Jakribettu collapsed, drinking water pipeline was broken and water flowed all through the highway on Wednesday evening in Mayyarabailu area. The municipal officials of Bantwal visited the spot. Lot of water went waste and entered compounds of some local people ad a Daivasthana. Later, backhoe was hired to divert the water flow. Fallen trees also blocked vehicular movement on some roads for some time.
