Dharwad, May 30: Dharwad district superintendent of police, Vartika Katiyar, gave enough evidence of her humane qualities when she helped an Australian woman who was stranded at Hubballi due to lockdown restrictions, by arranging for her travel back home.

A woman, Myshiana Niang, of Australian origin had come to Hubballi three months back. As lockdown was announced, she stayed in Renuka Lodge here. On Thursday, she visited the office of the deputy commissioner, and requested the deputy commissioner, Deepa Cholan, to help her to return to her country.

The SP, who saw the foreigner shedding tears, made inquiries, spoke to the embassy staff and arranged to send the woman back to Australia. She visited Renuka Lodge and arranged to send the lady to Bengaluru from Hubballi in a private vehicle. From Bengaluru, the lady will travel to Delhi and then to Australia. The woman profusely thanked the SP for this help.

Giving details, the SP said that the woman had come here to get spiritual training under the guidance of a Lama. She said that the staff of her office had extended financial help to the lady.

Katiyar informed that the woman has been subjected to COVID test and the result is expected on Saturday. She will begin her journey after getting the report, she revealed. If the result is positive, she will get treatment at KIMS Hospital Huballi, she explained.

Hubballi-Dharwad deputy commissioner of police, Krishnakanth, rural circle police inspector, Deseeza, satellite police circle inspector, Sundaresh Holennavar and others were present.
