Mangalore: Purseine Boat Fishermen Agitate Against Injustice

Mangalore, Feb 2: The fishermen of purseine boats suspended their work for a day and assembled at the Matsyagandha comlex of south wharf here on Monday February 1.


 

The protestors complained of injustice that the fishermen, who get out for fishing on trawl boats for over ten days net sardines, which is main source of income for purseine boat workers. The purseine boat workers who go out on fishing everyday rued that they were not able to catch enough sardines. Further they warned of intensifying the protest if necessary measures are not taken.

The protestors submitted memorandum to Trawl Boat Fishermen’s Association on the occasion. They also decided submit memorandum to deputy director of fisheries department, port officer and deputy commissioner.
