Madikeri: Man Held With Two Elephant Tusks

Madikeri, Feb 2: The personnel of the forest mobile squad have arrested Morkanda Satish (28), a resident of Shirangalli village near Somwarpet, and confiscated two elephant tusks approximately valued at Rs 40 lac from him.

Mysore superintendent of police(SP) of the forest mobile squad, R Krishnamurty, had got secret information that Satish had killed a wild tusker about four months back, and had hidden the tusks of the elephant in his home. Under the guidance of the SP, head constable, Madaiah and other personnel approached Satish in the guise of willing buyers, and asked him to come to Shirangalli Junction.

The tusks recovered from him weigh about 14 kgs, and each of the tusks is about a metre long. The accused has been handed over to the Somwarpet police station for further investigation.
