Mangalore: Three-day Student’s Yakshagana Fest Inaugurated

Mangalore, Feb 4: “The Yakshagana lovers of Dakshina Kannada should take an initiative to establish Yaksha Trust on the lines of Udupi district to develop an interest for it among the youth”, said MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik.

He was speaking as a chief guest at the three-day student’s yakshagana fest held at Town Hall, here on Wednesday February 3. Earlier Krishna J Palemar, district-in charge minister inaugurated the fest.


 

Responding to Karnataka Yakshagana Academy member Chandrashekar K Shetty suggestion for establishment of the trust in DK district, Palemar said that the government is already supporting Yakshagana through the academy. The banks, private companies and art lovers should contribute to the art and try to popularize it among the youth, he added.

Udupi Yakshagana Kalaranga president Tallur Shivaram Shetty presided. He briefed the audience about the trust of Udupi which is functioning under the leadership of MLA Raghupati Bhat.

Karnataka Yakshagana Academy registrar P Narayan Swami was present. Academy member Murali Kadekar proposed the vote of thanks.
