Mangalore, Feb 12: A special tribute was paid to the departed souls of Guadian Angel Parish, Angelore, on the occasion of platinum jubilee on Wednesday February 10.
The Eucharistic celebration began at 6.00 pm concelebrated by five priests associated with the parish. Fr Denis Rasquinha SJ who was the parishioner of Angelore was the main celebrant. In his introduction he vivified the reminiscences of the first three burials in the parish history, the memoirs of early 1935 and 1936. He preached a homily based on the Beatitudes.
Melwyn Peris and all the choir members increased the devoutness through their meaningful hymns during the Holy Mass. After the mass all the participants proceeded to the cemetery with disciplined procession from church with the hymns. The people had gathered in front of the graves of their dearly loved, departed people. Each grave was cleansed, decorated with flowers and lit with candles. The entire cemetery was illuminated.
Fr Vincent Monteiro, the chief of Pastoral Institute led the prayer service. Members of parish ward II led by parish priest Fr Stany B Lobo, with the guidance of their Gurkar Shanthi Rasquinha took an initiative to clean the entire garden of remembrance (cemetery).
The event was a meaningful catechesis to the young ones. It was an exceptional event to remember all the departed brethrens in the 75 years of history of the parish, indeed an apt spiritual programme planned by the parishioners.
