Mangaluru: People found smoking in public fined

Mangaluru, Aug 24: Consumption of tobacco and Pan Masala products and spitting have been banned in public areas because of risks of coronavirus infection and other disease spreading. As such, the district tobacco control cell and police department formed a team and conducted an operation in Urwa store area on Sunday August 23.

As many as 21 cases were registered and Rs 2,100 was collected as fine. Shops and hotels in the area were educated about the need to restrict tobacco consumption in the public.

The team was made up of senior food conservator Raju, social workers Shruti Salian and Vijay Kumar, apart from Urwa store police personnel.
