Bantwal, Aug 25: MESCOM electric meter readers working on a contract basis with the support of Dalit Seva Samiti began indefinite protests in front of MESCOM Bhavan, BC Road on Tuesday. They alleged that their salaries were not paid for the last two months even though the matter was brought to the notice of the district MLAs and MP.

Dalit Seva Samiti district president B K Sesappa Bedrakadu led the protests. The team of Panemangalore block Congress president Sudeep Kumar Shetty, INTEC district chief secretary Bondala Chittaranjan Shetty, Bantwal Youth Congress president Prashanth Kulal and Congress leader Venkappa Poojary under the leadership of former minister B Ramanath Rai joined the protests.

Former minister Rai said that meter readers during the term of the previous contractors received proper facilities. “An atmosphere of deduction in salaries and job terminations has begun now. The management should set it right. They should solve the problems of the meter readers during the period of difficult time,” he urged.

Bantwal town police personnel under the leadership of SI Avinash and Kalaimar provided security.
