Udupi: Boat sinks after hitting boulder - Loss Rs 80 lac

Udupi, Aug 26: After a boat dashed against boulder, it drowned. In this incident which happened 2.22 nautical miles away from Malpe, loss of Rs 80 lac was suffered by the owner.

The boat, 'Bahubali' belonging to Girish Suvarna from Pitrody Udyavar, had seven fishermen on board when it went down. All the fishermen were rescued.

The boat went out of control as it was heaved by huge waves in the sea and hit a boulder. The bottom of the boat was damaged, and water started entering the engine room. When the boat began to sink, people in another fishing boat, 'Tawakkal', who were engaged in fishing nearby, rushed to the rescue of these seven fishermen and rescued them. Although they also tried to rescue the boat, they could not.

Loss of Rs 80 lac has been estimated in the incident including diesel, net, and ice.
