Mangaluru: Yakshagana artiste Dr Narayana Shimantoor Shetty passes away at 86

Mangaluru, Aug 26: Dr Narayana Shimantoor Shetty (86), Yakshagana narrator who had written ‘Sri Kateel Kshetra Mahatme’ Yakshagana and popularly known with the title ‘Yakshagana Nagavarma’ passed away on Wednesday, August 26.

He had created four Yakshagana works including “Yakshagana Chandobudhi’, ‘Anarghya Chando Ratnagalu’, ‘Vichitra Tripadi’ and ‘Desi Chandobandhagala Puduvattu’. Among them Hampi University had awarded a doctorate for his ‘Yakshagana Chandobudhi’.

He had written ‘Sri Kateel Kshetra Mahatme’ with the inspiration of late Laxminarayana Asranna when he was just 13 years old.

He has passed away after brief illness without responding to treatment. He has left behind his wife, two sons and three daughters.
