Bantwal: Cancer awareness talk held at Modankap

Bantwal, Aug 31: Sparsha campaign against cancer was an awareness talk held at Modankap for the SHG members on August 25. Rita D'Souza, coordinator of the programme welcomed the gathering.

Shilpa D'Souza spoke on cancer mentioning its various types and causes. She stated that tobacco increases the heart rate and blood pressure. Due to the consumption of tobacco more than 10 lac people die every year.

The participants were advised not to consume tobacco products, junk food and to stop drinking alcohol. They were told to exercises like walking, jogging and yoga which could help them to stay healthy. Consuming organic vegetables and fruits would also help in remaining healthy. Towards the end, she stated many people who have battled cancer and won! Therefore, we should not lose hope in life, as through self-confidence anything can be achieved.



Shilpa also spoke about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic advising the participants to follow social distancing, Wearing masks and also using sanitizers regularly. By following these, the disease can be controlled up to a certain extent.

After the session, food kits were distributed by the parish priest of Modankap, Fr Valerian, to all the SHG members present. The food-kits were sponsored by The Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation and Snehasadan Kinnikambla. The total number of participants was 26. The programme came to an end by noon.
