Udupi: 'Illegally auctioned sand should be used for works inside district' – Kuilady Suresh Nayak

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB/EP)

Udupi, Sep 10: Speaking on illegal sand mined in the district being auctioned, district BJP president Kuilady Suresh Nayak said, “The district administration confiscates sand obtained illegally and auctions it. The district administration should ensure that that sand is used only in the district.”

“Several governmental works such as the construction of houses, buildings, roads, bridges etc depend on the supply of sand. The permanent solution for the sand problem is possible only by effective implementation of the sand policy,” he said.

“There was no difficulty to obtain sand due to sand policy formed during the term of former Karnataka home minister Dr V S Acharya. The way people suffered from sand problems due to policies of a minister of the coalition government later are well known. The current elected representatives have campaigned to draw the attention of the government to permanently solve the problem,” Nayak said.

“It is inevitable that the district administration lays down restrictions that the sand collected in Udupi district limits is not sold outside the district. The sand that is obtained from CRZ, non-CRZ sources or from any other sources should be easily available in the district so that development works pick up speed,” he urged.
