Kottayam, Sep 11: After a family in Thiruvarppu were infected with the coronavirus infection, the cows the family-owned were left alone with nobody to take care of them. The district collector Anjana then shifted all the five cow to a temporary shelter of the Dairy Development Department.

On Wednesday, the eighth member of the family tested positive for the virus and was shifted to Covid care centre. Due to this, the cows had no one to look after them. Apparently, when a cow is not milked regularly it affects their health.

The owner of the cows reached out to the district collector and requested for help in the matter. Following which, DC ordered the deputy director of the Dairy Development Department to take immediate action to protect and milk the cows. The cows were later shifted to the shelter with the help of panchayat and Thiruvappu milk producers society.

The panchayat authorities said that the temporary shelter will be retained even after the owner takes back the cows after they are cured. In case a similar situation surfaces elsewhere their cattle will also be shifted to the shelter. Panchayat and milk producers society authorities set up the shed on a compound and arranged facilities to protect the cows.

K G Sreelatha, deputy director Dairy Development Department, said that the Disaster Management Authority had entrusted the department to take care of the cattle in the houses where all family members are under treatment. All milk societies have been directed to make arrangements for the same required, she added.
