Udupi: 'Masaam' by Antony Barkur wins KBM Goa Literary Award

Udupi, Sep 13: Konkani Bhasha Mandal Goa announced the recipients of Literary Awards for the year 2020 and Masaam, a collection of stories written by Antony Barkur has bagged the prestigious Narasimha Damodar Naik Memorial Literary award. 

Antony Prakash D'Souza or Antony Barkur as he is known in the literary world hails from Moodahadu Kudru in Barkur. His debut publication about a collection of poetry won Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award and now his debut publication which is the collection of short stories bagged the Konkani Bhasha Mandal Goa award for literature.

The award will be conferred to Antony on September 30 at 5 pm in an online program organised by KBM Goa as announced by Anwesha Singbal, the president of Konkani Bhasha Mandal Goa. 

Antony Barkur is known for his service in the literary field. His stories have been continuously appearing in most of the Konkani magazines and publications.  

His first book 'Kaat Tutcho Vell' won the prestigious Karnataka Sahitya Academy award in the year 2010. His current book 'Maasam' has been published both in Kannada and Devnagari scripts. Most of the short stories by Antony are a work of fictional narrative prose with a few characters, limited settings and generally one or two major events. 

The book was released on December 2019 in Kannada script in Mangaluru and in Devnagari script in Jan 2020 in Goa. There are 13 stories written by Antony Barkur. Kishoo Barkur has written the foreword and designed the cover of the book. Melvyn Rodrigues has written the postface for the book.
