Mangalore: City Corporators Agitated - Mayor Promises to Amend CDP

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Apr 17: City mayor, Rajani Dugganna, promised the agitated city corporators that she would visit Bangalore within the next two weeks and get the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) of the city ammended to suit the needs of common people. She was speaking after presiding over the general session of the council on Friday April 16.

She was responding to concerns expressed by the leader of the opposition, Ashok Kumar, corporators, D K Harinath, former mayor, Shashidhar Hegde etc., who stuck to their demand to inform the people as to where the CDP stands and what is being done to ammend it.  Hegde said that because of the impractical conditions in the CDP, the common people are unable to get licences to build houses. He warned that people might be forced to start building houses without obtaining any licences, if the present situation continues for a prolonged period.

In reply to the worries about the looming threat of artificial floods expressed by the corporators, chairman of standing committee, Sudhir Shetty, said that all steps will be taken to ensure that artificial floods do not occur anywhere in the city during the monsoon season. Congress corporators, Lancelot Pinto and James D’Souza drew the attention of the administration to the fact that most of the roads in the city are devoid of any drains and that Maroli village faces the threat of getting inundated with flash floods, if steps are not taken to provide for the smooth flow of the rain water near the Pumpwell Circle in the city, where the work of filling a low-lying land is going on for constructing the new bus stand.

Corporators, Mariamma Thomas, Harinath, Appi, Jayanti, standing committee chairman, Sudhir Shetty etc., complained about the frequent power cuts that are affecting water supply and creating multifarious problems for the people. Commissioner, Vijayprakash, said that he would write to Mescom, keeping them abreast of the problems faced because of this situation, and the sentiments expressed by the corporators.

Deputy mayor, Rajendra Kumar, and commissioner, Dr K N Vijayprakash, were present.

The CDP in it's present form is drafted to help the Land Mafia. It's a clandestine attempt to force people with small tracts of land to sell.Therby these land sharks can build their multistoried apartments and sell them at fancy prices.Mr.Krishna Palemar must intervene in this matter and see that this CDP is done away with or redrafted to help people with small and tiny holdings or else people will percieve that he too is in nexus with the land mafia. After all he also is a builder and land developer.

Thank you Mr.Shashidhar Hegde for raising voice against the faulty policy in CDP relating to construction of houses by common man in Mangalore. The present policy is not PRACTICAL in nature and needs to be modified to benefit the common people. You know better, being past Mayor of Mangalore, the real problem of the people to build houses in small piece of land.Continue good /pro-people work. You will have peoples blessings.
