Udupi: Stolen valuables on train recovered, thief caught

Udupi, Nov 16: Railway Protection Force Konkan Railway caught a thief and recovered all the gold and valuable items worth Rs2.2 lac from him which he had stolen from a lady passenger in the AC 2 coach.

On November 13, passenger Vonita Diwakar Shetty reported that her lady's handbag was stolen from Mangala Express while traveling from Udupi to Mumbai. The handbag contained a gold bangle, gold Mangalsutra, mobile, key bunch, Aadhar card, ATM card, Mediclaim card, a purse with Rs 6,000 the items which totally valued Rs 2,20,000.

On receiving the information, inspector of Crime and Intelligence RPF /Madgao, Vinod Kumar from CCTV noticed a suspect arriving at the train time on the platform wearing a printed coloured cap.

On November 14, the suspect was arrested by the on-duty Karwar staff constable, Vinayak R D and the train escorting duty staff of Madgaon at Karwar station. The stolen items including the gold were recovered.

The suspect was on his return to his native with the stolen valuables after committing the crime. The apprehended person named Nikhil Kumar of Kannur, Kerala was brought from Karwar and handed over to the Konkan Railway police who registered a case vide Crime No 14/2020 under section 379 of IPC dated November 14.
