Bengaluru, Nov 16: In a tragic incident which happened at an apartment complex near the tin factory within the limits of Ramamurthy Nagar police station here, a person murdered the wife of his brother-in-law by slicing her throat. He then attempted suicide.

Lavanya (37) employed with Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd, was murdered. The murder accused, identified as Vijay Kumar, stands hospitalised with serious injuries. The wife of the accused and others are being questioned, the police said.

Lavanya's husband, Vasudevan, is a former serviceman. He lives in an apartment at Ramamurthy Nagar with family. His sister Laxmi had been married to Vijay Kumar in 2011.

A few months back, Laxmi had filed dowry harassment and domestic violence case against her husband, Vijay Kumar. She thereafter started to live with Vasudevan and Lavanya. Vijay Kumar had repeatedly called Vasudevan seeking to get back his wife, but Laxmi was not agreeable to live with him. He was angered by this rejection. The police said that he had threatened Vasudevan of separating him from his wife like he was separated from his wife.

Vijay Kumar visited Vasudevan's residence on Sunday in the guise of holding discussions relating to the said family dispute. Vasudevan had gone out of the house on some work at that time. The accused engaged in an argument with Lavanya before murdering her with a knife, the police stated.
