Udupi: Dr Malpe Surekha Bhat awarded Global Teacher Award 2020

Udupi, Dec 22: Dr Malpe Surekha Bhat on December 20 was one of the winners of the prestigious Global Teacher Award instituted by the World Educator’s Network and AKS Education Awards, India on a virtual platform.

Dr Surekha Bhat hails from Udupi and is the daughter of late M A V Bhat and Vijayalakshmi Bhat. M A V Bhat was a renowned banker who had provided his banking service all over India under the aegis of the erstwhile Corporation Bank and retired as regional manager of the regional office, Udupi of the same bank. Vijayalakshmi Bhat was a banker too before marriage and chose to be full-time wife and mother after marriage.

Dr Surekha Bhat completed her early education in various schools in India, graduated with a degree from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi and proceeded for her postgraduation (MSc in Biochemistry) and doctorate (PhD in Biochemistry) from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. She has 25 years of teaching experience in six different medical colleges and is currently associate dean for Academic Affairs at American University School of Medicine Aruba (AUSOMA), Aruba, the Dutch Caribbean.

The Global Teacher Award is instituted by World Educator’s Network and AKS Education Awards, Gurugram, India, on an annual basis and this is their third term of the institution of the awards to recognize teaching services around the globe. This year, 500 awards were given to teachers from 110 countries across the globe.
