Udupi, Jul 6: An eight-week training programme on management to develop young graduates as professional managers for small and medium enterprises was inaugurated at the MIT seminar hall on Monday July 5.

The programme is being conducted by Manipal Institute of Management in association with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

Dr T Prasad, professor, National Institute of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai, in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance of making higher education practical and productive.

“Otherwise, it will produce only unemployed /underemployed youth in the country”, he said and strongly advocated the introduction of an entrepreneurship course in the curriculum of higher education to make the students self-reliant and self-confident.

Sudhir D Burde, general manager, SIDBI, was the chief guest and in his address urged the participants to be job creators by creating their own enterprise rather than seeking employment in existing enterprises.

Dr G K Prabhu, registrar, Manipal University, presided over the programme.
Dr Aanatapadmanaba Achar, programme co-ordinator, welcomed and presented a brief report about the programme.  Smith Nayak compered the programme.

Thirty-five people from different parts of the country are participating in the training programme that aims to provide much needed skilled manpower to the small and medium enterprises sector by training unemployed graduates as managers.
