Bantwal, Jul 6: Lt Joseph D’Souza (89), an ex-serviceman, who had served in the Indian Army, breathed his last at his residence in Vittal on Monday July 5.

Lt D’Souza had taken part in the Jammu Kashmir war of 1947, Sino-Indian war of 1962, Indo-Pakistani war 1965 and war with Pakistan in 1971 that gave rise to Bangladesh. He retired in 1973 as the lieutenant of the army.

He served as a member of Vittal gram panchayat for two terms, and as the vice president of Vittal Our Lady of Dolours church for two terms. He also worked for long as a member of the governing council of Vittal PU College and several other organizations. He is survived by wife, Cicilia Mascarenhas, two sons and a daughter.

Vittal church parish priest, Peter Serrao, church parish council, Vittal gram panchayat president, Ramanath Vittal, St Rita School headmaster and teachers, apart from scores of other individuals and organizations have offered condolences to the family of Lt D’Souza.

    We lost great personality who contributed his might to the nation and served the community by contributing his full life. Very sad to hear the demise of Lt. Joseph D’souza who had fought all 4 wars for his motherland. With his rich experience he has served the society. We great respect we salute you Lt. Joseph D’souza.
    His spirit dwells with the God from where it has came from and pray that may his soul rest in peace.
    Our heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved members of the family.
