Mangalore: KACES Day - Celebrating 40 Years of Togetherness

Mangalore, Jul 7: Karnataka Christian Educational Society (KAECS) celebrated 40 years of togetherness by commemorating its founder Late Bishop C D Jathanna.

On the occasion “Sahaaya”, the KACES Helpline, an institution that intends to network with people and like-minded agencies in building communities of peace was inaugurated by Bishop C L Furtado in the presence of an august gathering. Dr Hannibal Cabral, secretary, KACES and its in-charge Sandeep Theophil also the public relations officer were also present. Later the renovated KACES hostel kitchen was inaugurated by Sarojini C D Jathanna in the presence of its warden Immanuel Bhaskar.

Dr D R Sadananada through his presentation helped the gathering in recapitulating the memorable moments marking the life and growth of KACES in the last four decades.

Speaking on the occasion, bishop C L Furtado called bishop C D Jathanna as a visionary and the one who advocated for theological education in the midst of secular environment. Quoting from Dr J Rossel’s autobiography titled ‘Tracking Christianity World Wide’ about bishop Jathanna, he said, bishop Jathanna had the vision, the qualities and the energy he needed for his most effective ministry. The Church of South India badly needs personalities of his kind. Too many churches in India and the rest of the world fear visionary and effective personalities. The Mangalore Theological College bears to witness to the lasting contributions of C D Jathanna, he said. 

Dr Cabral emphasized the need for retrospection, and called upon the KACES family comprising 17 institutions to introspect about their contribution towards the KACES community. He said that “there is a dire need to assist people in finding right resources in this regard. “Sahaaya” will assist people in finding the needed help.

Chetan R delivered the vote of thanks. The formal programme was followed by a cultural programmes from various institutions.
