Kundapur, Jul 9: Sudheendra Aithal from Saligrama in Udupi taluk, has been doggedly pursuing his passion, i.e., love for animals. Since the last many years, he has been providing shelter to abandoned animals or those wounded by their predators, in his remarkable zoo.

Citing rules, officials of the forest department had once raided his ‘illegal’ zoo, and had taken over its possession. Aithal had been arrested, and umpteen cases were slapped on him under various rules. Aithal came out on bail. The local people, who know Aithal’s kind nature, even had staged a protest against the high-handed attitude of the bureaucrats.

Aithal, who continues to battle court cases hoisted against him, is steadfastly taking care of the dumb creatures since the last three years. His zoo, for which ‘animal farm’ will be a more appropriate word, has given shelter to reptiles, which live in perfect harmony with predators like dogs, cats etc. The animal farm houses horses, lovebirds, guinea pigs, owls, swans, ducks, porcupines, Persian cats, deers, moneys, pigeons and a unique calf which is neither male nor female.

Sudhindra Aithal, who is not well-off, has reportedly been spending about Rs 2,000 on a daily basis to feed and take care of the animals in his custody. He wants to continue to follow his passion, but says he will be too happy to gratefully accept financial assistance, if philanthropists come forward to support his passion.

Instead of raiding such farms and distroying the zoo taken care by Aithal, granting financial aid to him would have been a good option.

Aithal is breaking the rule of land but we should ponder why he chose this hobby which is putting burden on his pocket too.

Unless the authorities take action to rehabilate the inmates and other strayed wild animals (rather than arresting its caretaker) we have no choice but to support Aital.

Sudheendra Aithal loves animals and we all can see that. On a previous occasion he was arrested an all available legal grounds. When such an issue is highlighted on Daijiworld, we readers come up with a lot of support, sarcasm etc. Readers even jump to their own conclusions and all religious outfits are dragged into the picture. The situation is becoming worse day by day due to the readers trivial qualms.
Readers, if we cant do anything good do not please criticise others who are selflessly doing good.
I do not support Sudheendra's activities keeping in mind the involvement of wild animals, but if only we can come up with something where Sudheendra can further his activities in a legal way. I am able to suggest an alternative, if the pilukula authorities can avail Sudheendra's services, his work with animals can continue too and his animals too can be housed in Pilikula as well. Even the pilikula authorities too are looking for sponsors, this way the readers can be support pilikula financially too. Please comment.

I strongly condem the act of the Govt officials against Mr. Aithal's passion for animals. Few years back I had been to this place and was delighted to see these animals respond to Mr. Aithal as if he was the Indian version of Dr. Do Little. We need such places where our kids can see animals live than just on Discovery or Animal Planet. Only then will our children learn to love & respect nature. I wish you all the best Mr. Aithal, I would strongly suggest that you look for options where you can legalize your petting zoo with the help of locals. Not all can take their children to Mysore zoo or any other far off places and spend money to see wild animals. Good Job Mr. Aithal

The devil looks after his own. Success comes to those who deserve it least. I am really proud Mr. Aithal, we are ready to help you to make your dream come true to the maximum possible extent.
Rome was not built in a day. It takes a long time to do a job properly. You should not expect to do it quickly. Have patience and continue your love for animals. Hats off to you.

May God Bless Mr.Aithal abundantly. It would be cruel if the Government confiscates his only treasure "D ANIMALS" infact they must accept his good will financially support him to do so coz there r no people who would spend all their time in such a great deed which in turn does not earn anything for him but only giving away all his time n love to those animals.

I have been frequently visiting along with my children and grand children to Mr. Aithal's private zoo (or acollection of animals).

At the end of my visit i put 100 or 200 rupees depending on how much I have in my pocket.

This man is a poor farmer and does not belong to any party. He loves animals and named almost all animals and calls them by their name.
    His work is great

    Dear Mr Aithal

Converting it to a Animal Farm seems to be the solution. For ex: This kind of farms abroad earn money than spending money.

They do grooming of Dogs, taking care of dogs when a family is away on trip, etc etc. These kind of services would earn a big money. Moreover, if there is a shop in the compound selling animal products, etc - then that is it.

    all the best to you

Mr. Aithal is doing a good job of taking care of poor animals.Let the government recognize it as an authorized "Animal Farm" and appoint Mr. Aithal as its Director or Care Taker.
