Mangalore, Jul 10: A motivational campaign for students with the passion for film-making and other media- related works was conducted at St Aloysius College here on Thursday July 8.

Abhaya Simha, the young film director and a former student at St Aloysius College was the resource person for the event. He pursued his studies right from Std 1 to graduation at St Aloysius and passed out in 2003.

As a student, he was very much interested in films and photography. After graduation he specialized in film-making at Film & Television Institute of India, Pune, during which he made more than 11 short films and over 20 documentaries, including a musical album for Palash Sen (“Rab Jane”!). His film ‘Gubbacchigalu’ won national award for portraying the wonderful world of children’s mind.

The theme of the event was Cinema- ithi, mithi (The regulations and limitations of films).

Addressing the students, Simha said that movie making calls for creativity and passion towards the work. “Narration is the most important thing in any movie. The audience should understand the message conveyed by the film- maker and also know his efforts behind the screen which will help them to make a decision, to change decision and also to improve their life style.” he said.

Sighting the example of MatruBhumi, the oldest newspaper which brought a revolution among the people of Kerala he said that movies should not limit only to entertainment purpose.

He revealed that he intends to educate the present genre on movies portraying children’s fantasies, environmental issues and the like. Dr Dhamodhar Shetty, HOD of Kannada department was also present.
