Mangalore: One from Vittal, Two from Kodagu, Meet Watery Grave

Mangalore, Jul 12: Omprakash (11), a seventh standard student of Vittal government model higher primary school, slipped and drowned in the standing water of a quarry in Nekkarekadu near Vittal on Sunday July 11 afternoon. Omprakash had ventured into the water to have bath.

The boy, living with his grandmother, Leela, at Koppala near Kashimutt, Vittal, had gone with his friends on a fun tour around the village, when tragedy struck. His mother lives in Moodbidri. After the death of his father a few years ago, he and his elder sister, Nityashree, were sent to their grandmother’s home for further education, it is learnt. Vittal policemen have registered a case.

In an incident that occurred at Hudoor village near Ponnampet in Kodagu district on Sunday, Ravi (25), son of the late Mutta from Seeta Colony, and Sumati (12), daughter of Chikkanna from the same village, drowned in a tank. Ravi was trying to save the girl, who was drowning after slipping, it is gathered. Sumati was an eighth standard student. Ponnampet policemen have registered a case.
