Mangalore: Official Advises Konkani-Speaking People to Utilize Govt Facilities

Mangalore, Jul 13: “The communities having Konkani as their mother tongue have succeeded in realizing projects like World Konkani Centre on their own, without any external assistance. They can very well make use of the government grants meant for culture, towards executing cultural projects,” felt Mangala Naik, assistant director in the department of Kannada and culture, government of Karnataka.

She was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a three-day Konkani theatre workshop, 'Ranga Samskriti', organized at World Konkani Centre here, by the city-based Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation. Well-known theatre personality, Kasargod Chinna, was the director of the workshop, which was held recently.



Shivanand Bhat, principal, Canara College, who was the chief guest of the function, felt that there is a need for the college students to cultivate hobbies which promote culture, art and heritage, during their leisure. “The fact that they have access to information technology in the college curriculum, helps them to pursue their hobbies without much hassles,” he added.

Kasargod Chinna delivered the introductory address. Foundation president, Basti Vaman Shenoy welcomed the guests and the gathering. Secretary, Venkatesh N Baliga, proposed vote of thanks.
