Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (SP)

Kasargod, Jul 17: Alleging that the negligence on the part of doctors in a private nursing home in Badiyadka had caused the death of Shanti Monteiro (31), wife of Joseph Monteiro, a farmer from Narampady village, a crowd with over 25 members attacked a nursing home in Badiadka and damaged property on Friday July 16.

Shanti had been admitted into the said nursing home on Wednesday morning with suspected dengue fever. By evening, her condition worsened, and she was shifted to a hospital in Mangalore as per the advice of the doctors of the nursing home. On Thursday evening, she breathed her last at around 6 pm.

At the time her body was being taken to Narampady, her relatives in the ambulance and many others attacked the hospital and damaged classes, furniture, electrical fittings etc, alleging that the death of Shanti was caused due to the excessive glucose drips administered at the nursing home.

In a complaint filed with Badiyadka police station, the doctors of the nursing home said that a loss of about two lac rupees had been inflicted on the nursing home in this incident.

The nursing homes should have the facilities to transfer the pts to better hospitals immidietly after the first aid. once they know that they cannot provide the needed treatment they need not waste the time by simply keeping the patient.pt and relatives have the right to know each and everything about the treatment.
