Mangalore: Sea Erosion - Protective Wall Project Gets Cabinet Nod

Mangalore, Jul 19: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, informed that the state cabinet has given its approval for a project aimed at building a protective wall along Karnataka Coast to protect people and property on the coastline from the problem of sea erosion. He informed, that this project, costing around Rs 911 crore, is being taken up in association with Asian Development Bank, and that work on the project will most likely begin in September this year.

He was speaking to the reporters after inspecting the spot in Sasihitlu near Suratka, where sea erosion has aggravated, on Sunday July 18.

He explained that the project will use German technology. The works will also be undertaken simultaneously in Kulai, Sasihitlu, Ullal etc., he added. “While second phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by 2014, the entire project is set to be executed by 2018,” he explained.

He also revealed that to manage the emergency situation, a sum of Rs 7.30 crore has been released to erect temporary protective walls.
